What To Do If a Bad Relationship has Damaged Your Self Esteem

Getting involved in a bad relationship is an event that a lot of people go through during the course of their lives. Sometimes, though, people are the victims of mental abuse from their partners, which can have a negative influence on them that remains for their entire life . This is one of the major causes of low self esteem.

It is not easy to bounce back from the mental abuse you had to endure and your esteem can be in tatters.  When you suffer this type of mental abuse it is generally because your partner wants to make you feel worthless and insecure.

The partner acts this way to gain control and increase his or her own ego (yes, women can be abusive , too). They want you to have low self-esteem to stop you thinking for yourself. Getting out of a relationship like that is the first step you need to take  in order to save your own sanity.

There are tasks you will need to take on to ensure that you recover from this mental abuse . It’s important to stay active . Get out and do things with your family and friends , because an abusive partner loves to alienate you from your loved ones .

Make sure that you have plenty of things to keep your mind focused on so that you do not spend all your time at home and spend all your time with the negative person is fuelling your low self esteem.  Get in contact with friends , read empowering books and watch uplifting films or start a project like learning a new skill .

Do whatever it takes to keep you going . If you have a job , continue to work and take note of your goals and achievements . If you are not in a job , look for one. Working can get your mind off of your problems and give you the necessary affirmation that you can achieve whatever you concentrate on and lead to overcoming your low self esteem.

You should avoid jumping into a new relationship until your emotions have healed . In the aftermath of a bad relationship you are more likely to fall for other partners who are just like your ex. You must avoid getting into the same plight as before and repeat the abuse you suffered before .

Ensure you never waste time on thinking about your ex partner It does not matter if it is positive or negative thoughts. A lot of people spend loads of time thinking about how much they hate their former partner or how they could get revenge.
